2012 SOK Club Notices

  January 2012

  • Starting with the May 12, 2012 event, Southern Oregon Karters will hold races, rain or shine. This means that racers will need to be prepared with rain tires in case a rain race is called by the Race Director.
  • Don Clark has been named the S.O.K. Race Director for 2012. Mark Winstead will be the starter for the season.
  • The raceday will now consist of a timed qualifying session (no free practice), followed by two heat races and a main event. The second heat race will invert the front half of the grid based on the finishing order of the first heat race.
  • The first volunteer workday will be Saturday, March 10, 2012
  • S.O.K. will have a booth at the Southern Oregon Rod & Custom Show at the Medford Expo on February 18-19.
  • 2012 race fees for S.O.K. members will be $40 for the first class and $10 for additional classes (for the same driver/kart). Transponder rental remains $5 per kart.

  October 2011

  • The annual Awards Banquet will be held at the Elks Lodge in Medford on Saturday December 10, 2011. Social hour starts at 5:30pm with dinner to follow at 6pm. Awards and drawings will take place after dinner. Each member gets 2 free guest passes. Additional guests are $10 per plate.
  • The board of directors will vote on nominations for club president at the next board meeting on November 16. Please submit your nominations by email.
  • The board will also vote on 2012 rules, classes and tires at the 11/16 meeting. All members are encouraged to attend to voice opinions on these topics. Bruno's Pizza on the corner of Crater Lake Ave. and Roberts Road

 August 2011

  • The Board voted unanimously to increase the minimum combined driver/kart weight in the TAG Heavy class from 405 lbs. back to it's previous limit of 420 lbs. This rule will be effective starting with the August 20 race.

  May 2011

  • The May 15 club race has been rescheduled for August 21. This will be the second race of the weekend, following the night race the evening before. Registration stats at 9am and we will use Track 5.
  • La Quinta Inn has a limited number of 2-Queen rooms for the IKF race on 6/9-10 specially priced at $79 per night. Reservations must be made by 5/31/11. Call (541) 826-0800 and mention the kart club.

  April 2011

  • The March 27 club race has been rescheduled for July 10. It will be a day race running Track 1.

  March 2011

  • Bridgestone YKC tires are the ONLY compound allowed by the rules for SOK kart racing in 2011. Bridgestone YHC tires are NOT PERMITTED
  • New IKF bumper rule #201.6 - SOK is an IKF sanctioned club which now requires full width rear bumpers, either the new plastic bumpers or the double bar steel tube type design. This will be incorporated into the safety rules, in other words, they are MANDATORY.
  • The 2011 Race Schedule was recently revised - 2011 Season Schedule
  • Night race program - two heat races and the event starts 1 HOUR EARLIER - Raceday Program
  • IKF Redding Race date change - the Redding IKF race was rescheduled to April 30th - May 1st. This necessitated a schedule change for the IKF round in Medford. PLEASE check the schedule on the website for the correct dates.
  • Pay for your 2011 SOK Membership and receive your track key at Twedell's Towing - 3116 N. Pacific Hwy., Medford, OR
